Founded in 2008, the Universities Committee for Scottish Literature is a body of academics concerned with the condition, development and promotion of Scottish literary studies in higher education. UCSL
- administers the award of the prestigious Ross Roy Medal for the best PhD thesis in Scottish literature submitted to a participating institution in a given year;
- fosters collaboration in Scottish literature teaching and research — between institutions, among postgraduates, and across disciplinary and international boundaries;
- aims to speak for Scottish literary study where matters of Higher Education policy are discussed by educational or other public bodies.
Though focused on the Scottish Higher Education context, UCSL is keen to develop collegial links with academics and academic institutions across the globe.
